Lesson 2 : Catch Up work

Criticisms

Suggest THREE other ways it could be argued that the internet might be 'killing our culture'?

  • Online shopping is making a lot of the users today, sit at home doing their orders instead of going to the actual stores and buying them.
  • Social networking sites are restricting us from acting going to see the people that we are talking to.
  • Misleading information can be given to millions of users around the world because nowadays, the internet webpages can be run by anyone and can therefore trick people into believing the wrong things.
Criticisms : Pornography
  • Pornography can be harmful because it may give misleading information to young children
  • If young children are watching this, they wouldn't understand a lot about it and therefore, could scar them for life because they  may not know anything about this

Some online sources

1. A report of BBC News Online - Research by many sorts of journalists
2. An academic paper available at a US University website - A lot of reliable research would have taken place
3. An online study published by OFCOM - same reason for above
4. A film review in the comments section on IMDB - it can be reviewed by anyone ; doesn't neccessarily have to be reviewed by someone who hasn't watched the film
5. An article on Wikipedia - anyone around the world can change the facts which can lead to misleading information

What is wrong with the internet?

  • Gives us misleading information
  • A lot the sites nowadays can be made by anyone which can link again to inaccurate information
  • More hackers
  • Phishing
  • People can access peoples privacy more quickly nowdays
  • People post their lives on the internet without even thinking twice because they may believe they're safe but they're really not

1 Minute video Learner Response

The 1 minute video that I had did was with Sunny. Me and him created a video where we would interview two students about the internet and the pros and cons about it; We can a point of view from a media student and also a computer science student. We recorded this on a mobile phone and used Adobe Premiere to edit the video.

In my opinion, I believe that this video has it's ups and downs.

Positives

  • Clear points
  • Strong questions were asked to the interviewees and they were able to answer it quite strongly as well
  • The fact that we used two different students learning different things gave it more of an original feeling
  • The classroom setting; being in a computing room
Negatives
  • Should've had a variety of settings
  • Sound levels were too low
  • Lip syncing wasn't right
  • Used two male characters; should've used one female for a balance
Feedback

Positives for other students
  • Well Structured
  • Articulate
  • Very good editing
  • Produced well
  • We gave a personal approach which was interesting
  • Nice music background
  • Great technological use
Negatives for other students
  • Balance genders
  • Voices weren't synced properly
  • Added some images to relate to some of the things that  the people being questioned were saying
  • Add statistics
